Hardware Revision Descriptions
Revision A
General release: 12 September 2000
Original release.
Revision B
General release: 6 February 2001
Replaced U31; was a 78L08A; changed it to a 78L15A device. This was done
to increase the supply voltage to the SWC transceiver. With the 'L08'
device the SWC wakeup voltage was at or below specification.
Revision B2
General release: 2 April 2001
Removed R78 (1 Kohm). Installed R79 (31.6 Kohm). This changed the slew
rate of the VPW signal to the correct value.
Revision C
General release: 10 April 2001
Updated PC board design. Corrected the J8150 VPW slew rate control
resistors. Changed the SWC transceiver to a Philips AU5790D8 device.
Revision D
Limited release: 26 April 2001
Separated K-line power source from rest of unit power. Consult the
document: Description of Hardware Revision "D" for detailed information.
Document available from our Download page.
Revision E
General release: 27 November 2001
Added support for CAN-B (ISO 11519) operations.
Modifications to the main board to include:
Remove the following resistors: R15, R16, R17, R18, R19, and R20.
Cut the track from P2-9 on the bottom of the board.
Add the following wires:
P2-5 to via next to R110; to U17-20.
P2-6 to via between R35/R36 and U34; to U17-16.
P2-9 to K7-1.
P2-10 to K8-1.
Install P2.
Install the add-on board, AVT-718W.
Revision F
General release: 14 February 2002
Corrected and changed a few nodes/nets to more easily accomodate the CAN-B
add-on board. With this revision the AVT-718 board will not require any
modifications to install and use the CAN-B add-on board (AVT-718W).
Revision G
General release: 19 September 2002
Added CAN-B support to the board (eliminating the AVT-718 "W" add-on
board).
Added RS-422 support for serial communications to the host computer
(eliminating the AVT-718 "T" converter). Note that RS-232 or RS-422 are
mutually exclusive on the AVT-718 "G" board. Either one or the other is
installed. This is not a modification that can readily be done in the
field.
Added jumper support to permit separating the K-line supply from the
AVT-718 power source.
Changed the DC/DC converter to a smaller unit.
Replaced the large isolation diodes on the K and L lines.
Revision H
Limited release: 15 January 2003
Configuration for one customer.
Install firmware version 4.2.
Add single wire SCP modification.
For PCB revisions up to and including "G": On JP1 add a wire to connect
pin #19 to pin #23.
For PCB revisions "AA" and later: On JP1 remove shunt across pins #15 and
#16. On JP1 add a wire from pin #16 to pin #23.
Revision J
General release: 15 July 2003
Modification to enhance LIN mode operations. This modification is required
to use firmware version 4.4 and above, in LIN mode.
Connect a small wire (30 awg) from P2 pin #5 to U21 pin #5.
U21 pin #5 connects to a small via right next to the pin. Use a small
X-Acto type knife (or similar) to 'carefully' clean out the via
connected to U21 pin #5. Solder a small wire (30 awg) into the via for U21
pin #5 and then connect that wire to P2 pin #5.
Revision K
Limited release: 12 August 2003
Special for one customer. Hardware modification to adapt a 718 board to
the role as simulator for a test stand. To be used only with firmware
version 4.5.
Start with a revision "J" board. Remove Q5, R119, and R120. Install a
jumper wire in place of R119.
Pin 15 of P3 can now supply V-Batt to a downstream module under control of
the host computer. Refer to firmware version 4.5 for command details.
Revision L
Limited release: 30 August 2003.
Add the capabilities for supporting the AVT-718 "X" add-on board.
Adds support for SDM-AOS communications, also known as GM specification
CM20324.
