Hello, The AVT-418 and AVT-843 both use the Lantronix "XPort" unit to implement the Ethernet TCP/IP function. The "XPort" is an embedded serial server. This note is for when you discover you can not make an Ethernet connection to the AVT-418 or AVT-843 unit, and you suspect the IP address of the AVT unit is not what it should be. There are several things you can do, but the best method, and probably the quickest, is to obtain a copy of the XPort Configurator or Installer software from Lantronix. Install it on a computer, connect the AVT-418, have the software search for the device, and then set the IP address. Generally speaking, it is best to leave all other XPort operational parameters alone. An aside. So far, my experience with the latest version of the XPort installer software hasn't been great. I found it easier to use the XPort installer software to set the IP address of the XPort unit. Then I use Telnet to open a session (to port 9999) and set all the operational parameters through Telnet. In the back of the manual for the AVT-418 and the AVT-843 units, I included a complete list of the Telnet setup session for each unit. After you set the XPort IP address, you can open a Telnet session and then check all of the operational parameters. Here is the link for the XPort installer software. http://ltxfaq.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/ltxfaq.cfg/php/enduser/std_adp.php?p_sid=RZ7Dterh&p_lva=&p_faqid=644&p_created=1011733181&p_sp=cF9zcmNoPTEmcF9ncmlkc29ydD0mcF9yb3dfY250PTM4JnBfc2VhcmNoX3RleHQ9JnBfc2VhcmNoX3R5cGU9MyZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMT0xMCZwX3Byb2RfbHZsMj0xNiZwX3NvcnRfYnk9ZGZsdCZwX3BhZ2U9MQ**&p_li= Locate the "XPort" device in the table and download the software and then install it. Depending on how your machine is configured, you may have to install elements of the Microsoft ".NET" framework as well. A link for that stuff is on that same page. Note that there are two ways to set the IP address (and otherwise configure the XPort device). One is to have the software search for the device. If the device is found, click on it (to select that device), click on "Set IP Address", enter the new IP address, allow the XPort to reboot and you should be on your way. The other method is to just click on "Set IP Address" (do not select any device), enter the MAC address (printed on the label on top of the XPort device), enter the IP address and then let the XPort device reboot. If the installation software then finds the XPort - you're back in business. If not, then it is possible the XPort has failed. You'll have to send the AVT interface back to me for repair. Be sure to check your LAN cables, hub, and other stuff before going crazy trying to fix an XPort and an AVT interface that may not be broken. Also, if your host computer has more than one LAN interface (NIC), be sure to select the correct LAN card when searching for the AVT-418 or AVT-843. The only other option is to return the unit to me and I'll reconfigure and test it. Or, if the XPort has failed, I will replace it. But, depending on where you are, that could take time and be expensive (shipping costs). Call or write if you have any questions or problems.
