At a swap meet in the fall of 2022 (I think) I bought a "Mighty MIG 101" MIG welder. I got it home and cleaned it up. I did some on-line searching for a manual. No luck. I discoverd two interesting items. One: It was made in Italy and, apparently, sold in the USA under several different names. I found one manual that appears to be 'pretty close' and includes a unit level schematic. Handy MIG 101 manual Two: I read a forum where at least two people posted that they had the same welder and that the control board for the wire feed motor had failed. One person described the failure as two resistors on the board had burned out and could not be identified. I thought it would be a good idea to document that board before, and in-case, mine burned out. Before I did anything with my new welder, I removed the control board (for the wire feed motor) and documented it. Then I put it all back together, cleaned the enclosure, inside and out, and tested the wire feed. It didn't work; the wire would not feed. After a little troubleshooting I found that one of the wires on the "J1" connector (body) had come loose. The connector (body) that mates to "J1" on the control board is an "IDC" type (Insulation Displacement Connector). Using a small flat bladed screw driver I merely pushed all the wires into the connector. That fixed the wire feed problem. To be honest, I still have not had time to fully test the welder by 'welding' any metal. But I'm sure it will work. While troubleshooting my "loose wire" problem I made some notes about the internals of the Mighty MIG 101. This wrote this page to present the information I gained working on my Mighty MIG 101 welder. Maybe it will help someone, someday. I'm not going to write an explanation of how the control board works. I'm simply posting my notes and pictures "as-is". If you have any comments or questions, write me.
